Walk or Roll to School Day Online Kit

The following materials are part of a Walk or Roll to School Day kit available from the Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Resource Center. Beginning in May and running through August 31, schools may request a kit be mailed to them in September. All of the materials are also available online in the files listed below.

Walk or Roll to School Day Materials

Walk or Roll to School Day flyer for schools - This promotional two-page flyer provides information about Pennsylvania Walk or Roll to School Day, offers suggestions on how a school can participate, and includes tips to ensure a successful event.

Walk or Roll to School Day flyer for students and parents - This one-page flyer can be reproduced and sent home with students. It announces that a school is participating in Pennsylvania Walk or Roll to School Day and lists reasons why students and parents should walk to school. It also introduces the concept of a walking school bus or bike train as a way for parents and students to participate.

Sample press release - A school can fill in this press release template with appropriate details about its Walk or Roll to School Day activities and send it to local media to generate press coverage of a school’s events.

Safe Routes to School Resource Materials

Pennsylvania SRTS Resource Center catalog - This flyer lists the resources available from the Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Resource Center.

Safe Routes to School promotional cards - These cards promote the Safe Routes to School program and are included in the kit as a means to help spread the word about Safe Routes to School. They should be distributed to school nurses, physical education and health teachers, PTOs/PTAs, elementary and middle school principals, and others interested in the health and safety of school children.

Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Comprehensive Guide - This publication provides a central resource for schools, municipalities, community leaders, police, and anyone else seeking information about the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program in Pennsylvania. It includes a summary of the resources, materials, training, and funding available through the SRTS program.

Bicycle Education Training - This flyer provides details about training available statewide in September and October on how to teach safe cycling skills to school-aged children.

Crossing guard training material - These materials consist of a summary of the crossing guard training offered by the Pennsylvanian SRTS Resource Center in March and April.
